Even if Blatter was 100% innocent of any involvement in the corruption (well, we all know he was balls deep in it like the others), but even if he WAS innocent, he HAD to resign - he's supposed to be in charge of the organization. It happened on his watch.

They literally thought they were untouchable. There had been rumours of corruption for years but they'd have gotten away with it all if they didn't give Qatar the World Cup.

The moment they did that the whole world knew and it was just a matter of time.

Yep. A spot of skimming of the money is one thing. Doesn't even affect Europe much so I doubt too many of the super powers would be complaining that some of the poor countries were misusing their allocation. But awarding the World Cup to Qatar was a move in the direction of royally taking the piss. A statement that the whole procedure is bent and nobody could challenge it. Step too far.
