Jim Ratcliffe already bought an office block literally next door to Harrods a few years ago to set his son up there. Each floor is themed with different sports, one of the floors has an F1 car Its all for show.

If you wanted to expand your property portfolio, you wouldn’t buy one of the worlds leading clubs as some kind of front. It might underpin the value but it’s not realisable.

My guess is that at his age and his wealth, it’s largely a vanity project but has real potential to inform a slightly kinder model of future investment in uk clubs - away from glazer style take take take ownership and city, white washing ownership.

I’d want to know a lot more before concluding anything but my initial thoughts are that I’d be delighted if I was a Chelsea fan.

It really isn’t a property play.

He knew he was too late to the party and wouldn’t get it. Maybe he thinks it might tempt our owners to put in a call to see if he wants to redirect his investment. A cuter way of doing it than ringing them to see if they want to sell. Well, we can all dream.

Skinny little @#%&! needs to put his big boy pants on, swagger into the boardroom and slap a cool £5b on the table, with the promise of an extra £500m if they surrender Woodward to be publicly flogged before each home game.

Happy to be corrected mate, but think he bid 2.7 with intentions to put 1.5 into the club to clear debt/obligations etc. What would it cost to buy United, then clear debt (if necessary) rebuild the squad and fix the stadium? Not looking likely.

Very unlikely. His interest in Chelsea involved a stadium rebuild and related property builds in one of the world's most expensive real estate markets.

Not sure the Old Trafford car park has the same appeal
