I was studying and not far from the ground in Sutton but listening to the game.

Proper JFK moment - a lot of anti United feeling at that time.

"Off you go Cantona, its an early shower for you!"

Not surprised Eric reacted as he did.

Listened to the game it on Piccadilly gold, missed the moment but when I turned it on Tom Tyrell sounded dumbfounded “Eric Cantona has been sent off, and he’s kicked a fan”

Watched sportsnight that evening to see Des Lynan looking sombre like someone died

Good guardian piece

https://www.theguardian.com/football...25-years-later

On a personal level it helped me...me dad had died a few days before, and his funeral was two days after the cantona incident....at the funeral rather than awkward small talk about “my loss” it was all about Eric

“Yea deepest condolences and all that, but £#%&!ing hell did you see that kick?”

Was 11 l, had it on 1152, the phone in afterwards was great, paddy c pretty much condoned it iirc. Paul Nolan nearly combusting live on air. The media not being able to decipher the obvious meaning of the seagulls quote was the day I learnt the msm are largely morons

Some great characters and reactions in the photo still. Anyone got a high res version?

Great days. We had a proper team then, ready to take on the opposition fans. The closest we get now is the players blocking people on social media

It's depressing when someone says '25 years ago'.

You click on it expecting to see something from the late 70s, forgetting it's going to be f***ing 1995

What a sensible chap Matthew Simmons has become, not that innocent fan that was brutally attacked by a thuggish footballer as the media made out at the time

What strikes me about that picture is how smartly dressed many of the fans were. Even the guy who caused it all had a pair of slacks on.
