Football Alex Stepney

[SIZE="4"]Alex Stepney

I think this is a video compilation that Grimmers will really appreciate on one of the greatest goalkeepers in our entire history, Alexander Cyril Stepney

Alex Stepney was one of the key players in Utd's great side of the mid to late 60s and was the only member of the 1968 side that won the European Cup to still be in the team when we won our next piece of silverware at Wembley again against Liverpool in the 1977 FA Cup Final

Stepney got only one cap for England as he was unfortunate to be playing in England's greatest era for goalkeepers with legends such as Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton keeping him out of the side

Reminds me of holy Joe.

Alex Stepney may save the goals but it`s Jesus Christ who saves the souls

Great stuff. Different era - no protection from refs, gardening gloves, bad pitches, no specialized training or video analysis.

On the other hand, the balls were heavier and generally flew straight.

Stepney was keeper when I first started going to matches.
Great keeper. Made some great saves against the vermin in FA cup final 1977.
Got an injury at one point and was replaced by Paddy Roche who was an utter disaster but outlasted Stepney and was still around some years later as 2nd to Gary Bailey.
I've met him a couple of times and he seems like a top bloke.

Well he was 9 years younger than Stepney.

Stepney never got the credit he deserved imo.
