he also beat guardiola's side to win the charity shield, the spanish cup and by winning superbly in camp nou in the run-in they won the league in 2012. real also scored at least 100 goals in each of mourinho's 3 league campaigns.

overall it's fair to say that mourinho clearly advanced real from where they were when he arrived, both domestically by taking on and seeing off guardiola, and in the CL where they had massively under performed for a decade, setting them up to return to the top ...

the work done to close the gap to barcelona over the previous 5 or 6 seasons has obviously helped zidane's incredible transition to management. as has the fact barcelona have significantly dropped off a level as their team ages and wanes.
