How many times have we managed it since Fergie left. Can't be many.

And it's because of how we're playing.

How we play and set up put us in a position to win the match. We rode our luck, but it wasn't some smash and grab. We matched them, hurt them and could have killed it ourselves at 1-0.

This started as 'It's only Cardiff'. Then it was only Huddersfield etc.

The first tougher test was Newcastle away. Passed.

Then today was supposed to be the first big test. Where we'd see if we had actually changed and where Ole's coaching credentials would be tested.

He passed again. It wasn't some idealistic gung-ho set up. We were measured and controlled, but he'd clearly done his homework on Spurs.

Every single player is improving. Even ones you didnt think would. Already we have a clearer identity of our strengths, How we want to play. You could name 9 of our best 11 already.

And none of this seems like luck or punching above our weight. This is what these players are capable of doing and there is still room for improvement.

I'm sure it won't all be roses and he'll have some ups and downs, but considering how we were against Liverpool and the mood around the club, to suggest he hasn't done an impressive job in such a short space of time would be daft.
great post: Ole's at the wheel

There’s still question marks but we feel like united again. Just a question of how he handles some adversity and tough situations, and the dynamic and expectations will obviously change if he’s made permanent manager.

Everyone at the club needs to have a serious think about whether it’s a few years too soon for Ole or whether he’s ready now. This could be a brilliant learning experience for him which he could take into another premier league job for the next few years and then be the front runner the next time the job comes up. Or is there any point doing that and the time is now. Only Ole knows the better long term choice.

On another day, so would we.

Yeah, that's a fair point.

As it stands, he isn't the manager next season. We know this. He knows this. The players know this.

The dynamic changes if he gets the job.

It's an odd situation. One we never envisaged and a rare chance for a manager to actually audition for the role. With the three after Fergie, there was always that bit of fear in terms of not knowing how they would handle the job.

With Ole, we at least have a glimpse into what he brings.

Another thing in his favour is that he fits the criteria of what we actually want from a manager: younger, with something to prove. Positive. 'Gets' the club. Commands respect. Promotes youth.

He's not just some ex player. His attributes and personality suit what we need.

The big one against him is his lack of experience.... but what better way to get around that than what he's doing right now.

He has more experience of managing Manchester United than any manager hired before him.

If we can get Poch, fine. But atm I can’t see anyone else who should be above him in the pecking order. £#%&! Zidane, Simeone and Southgate .

If we hire any of those clowns it’s not just Ole that goes, it’s the entire coaching crew, and I have a pretty good feeling about the gang of four tbh.

Anyone would be a gamble. Even Poch.

I honestly don't think he would be any more a gamble than anyone else.

And we know how he would choose to go about it. That's crucial.

I think the whole Poch not winning a trophy is a bit unfair and doesn’t tell the entire story, but however you slice and dice it it is true. The guy’s been in management for 10 years and hasn’t won a thing; not even a lesser cup.

it's not even about that (although obviously it is)

what worries me is the sheer amount of times he/ they bottle it

he let £#%&!ing Leicester win the league

Can’t deny it. He has made every team he’s taken significantly better and more atttactive though and with relatively scant resources.

agreed on that, obviously worked wonders at Spurs but there's still that nagging doubt and it's a big one

anyway hopefully Ole makes himself a shoo-in by getting top 4 and winning a trophy

If Ole gets top four, it would be a bigger risk to remove him from the role than give it to him.

Woodward would be making another huge mistake if Poch is available but we opt to give it to Ole.

We're just being blinded at the moment by football that seems out of this world but in fact is just normal.

We're still working Mou out of our system.

Seems to be a lot of narrative already saying we were lucky and De Gea kept us in it. But that first half was the best weve played all season against a decent side. Arguably for longer than that.

Spurs are above us in the table and at home. Of course they were gonna have a go second half.

As Neville said on commentary, any decent goalkeeper saves them. Love Dave but he didn't have to pull off any worldies today.

Sure, they could've had one or two on another day but we did better than is being made out. Dangerous as £#%&! on the counter

Thought Ollie got it spot on tactically today.

Think we might nick Liverpool's Calendar Year trophy if we carry this on

That’s the big one for me because that’s ole’s biggest quetion mark.

Talked afterwards about changing the system to fit the opposition - something that our last two managers have struggled with.

Said to myself let’s see where we are after Newcastle away and spuds away. Struggling to now think of a good enough reason why he doesn’t get it.

Great. Like one of those managers who specialise in getting teams promoted.

Easy to argue that Spurs created loads against us 2nd half but if the bench is any indication, he had 4 fit defenders, and more than made the best of it.

Tentative atm. Needs to follow this up. Liverpool and PSG will be bigger tests and I'll settle for encouraging there if he's still being forced to play Jones.
