Question This media Dogleash love in..........

It is all the more puzzling when you look properly at his managerial record, surely??

Liverpool - took over a club that had been on top of the English game for over a decade. Inherited a team which went on to win the double in his first season - then became famous for blowing the FA Cup against Wimbledon, and the league against Arsenal () By the time he quit their decline was already starting to become obvious - not helped of course by some of his bizarre signings (Speedie) Quit without warning and went off to play golf, whilst the team slumped........

Blackburn - took over the Man City of their day, but almost managed to blow promotion, squeezing in via the play-offs. More lavish (by the standards of the day) spending eventually got the title in 1995 - but they did their best to blow a once unassailable lead (and but for @#%&!ing Miklosko playing the game of his miserable life, would have done)

Again, Rovers went into freefall almost immediately on his departure.

Newcastle - often left out by his apologists, one wonders why?? Inheriting Keegan's side, repeated his second place finish. Things started to go wrong once he started to bring in his own players (anybody see a pattern developing here??) Some real rubbish too - Andersson, Tomasson, his totally past it Dippers pals, and above all Guivarc'h rofl rofl rofl

In his first full season, relegation was narrowly avoided. It took Robson to repair his damage, several years later.

Celtic - was supposed to provide the "experience" to guide rookie John Barnes. As a former club legend, what could possibly go wrong?? Quite a lot, actually. Finished about 2000 points behind Rangers in the league, but will be most remembered for inspring arguably the Sun back page's finest ever moment

So in the light of all this, why do so many (not just delusional RAWKites, but supposedly serious media people) seem to assume he will be a great success at Anfield??

The coverage over the last 24 hours has at times reminded me of a minor royal, so obseqiuous has it been

He was a truly great player too, no denying that (the bindipping @#%&!)

In a way, it is disprespecting his playing achievements to bundle it together with his managerial career........

(as so many have been doing since yesterday morning)

Hodgson's crime... taking a side that finished second two years earlier to twelfth place.

The obvious replacement - some bloke who did EXACTLY the same thing in his last English job.

Got to love the vermin

He already looked like he was on the verge of a breakdown/heart-attack today. He'll be gone by the summer in a blaze of mediocrity.

aside from the obvious 'returning hero' angle, i think the media make a fuss 'cos it reawakens their own old glories. like when keegan went back to newcastle it brought back memories of the premiership duels with united and his meltdown in '96; the same with dalglish, who aside from grabbing headlines as a player and winning titles in the 80s, was also in charge for the infamous arsenal title decider and during hillsborough. all of that is era-defining stuff, and meat and drink to hacks who hope for more of the same.

however, as many have pointed out, the entire landscape of the game has changed while he's been away, and as a result he seems ill-equipped to replicate earlier successes, especially given liverpool's current precarious position. no matter; if he doesn't revitalise them on a wave of swelling emotion, he'll sink without trace in a sea of devastation, whereupon they can meditate on the impossibility of returning to the scene of past triumphs. the story is just as good either way, moreso given that scousers are a particularly melodramatic breed. all this will probably be another bumper payday in the process of documenting liverpool fc this season.

I'd really *squeak* love it if dalglish suffered a meltdown, but somehow I don't think it would have the same impact.
