Is it beyond the realm of possibility that both our main coach and our manager are just naturally amazing and don’t need experience?

Well if they are they're doing a £#%&!ing good job of hiding it.

It’s because the greatness of Fergie was intrinsic to him
It’s not something you can learn or pass on to someone, Fergie just had these special qualities that allowed him to get the best out of players

It’s not like with a manager like Pep were his greatness is in how he coaches his teams to play
That’s something you can pass on to those you work with

Ole is trying to be Fergie but strangely enough it isn’t working because he isn’t Fergie and there never will be another Fergie

it's like asking me why i can't rebuild a taxi engine despite driving a cab around for a £#%&!ing decade. Because that isn't what i'm good at and i'll never be good at it.

Fergie didn't have a 'style of play' to pass on. He managed through several decades and produced about 3 all-time great sides that played vastly different football.

What he was good at was producing WINNING teams. Teams that found a way to win. If you listen to him talk that's what he preaches more than anything. Finding a way to win. That was his mantra.

He had a few different assistants who were all very different in their approach.
Kidd, McClaren, Quieroz, Mulensteen....He adapted and changed so much I don't think you can replicate what he did or the manager he was.

The idea that anyone can work under ferguson and just sort of pick up his baton and run with it is insane. He was cut from the same cloth as Busby, Stein and Shankly, great men who were more than just managers, they were charismatic leaders who people naturally wanted to follow.

I’d say they have an idea but don’t have the skills to actually implement it.

They inspire so little confidence don’t they

Pretty much every manager even at the top is a coach first and foremost. The days of delegating and keeping enough of a distance so players know who is in charge seem over. Phelan was Ferguson's right hand man for the last five years when the club won three league titles and made it to two Champions League finals. By all accounts Ferguson didn't lead training sessions so Phelan must have had significant responsibility and respect from players much more accomplished than this group.

Even then the players wanted to be the best, play for the club, had a desire to do well and not shrink. We had about 6 captains at the club, Rio evra rooney scholes Giggs VDS all are big players who had the desire from within.

That being said having McKenna (who was ex Spurs academy and then it’s academy coach) and carrick ( who has had zero experience of top level coaching) and a set piece coach ( who has had Chelsea 23s assistant as his highest experience) is always going to be a recipe for disaster. I’m not saying the coaches should all have big wins as coaches in their career, but having coaches who have proven ability at first team football would be a start. Even if it’s a coach from Ajax, PSG , Barcelona, Madrid. Someone who has worked directly for a long time with the top coaches too. But it’s just pathetic at this stage, I also think there would have been pressure from the board to keep it that way.

When Rui faria left they promoted carrick to assistant. Didn’t even want to replace him, and that clearly isn’t a Jose thing as Jose had his own new assistant at Spurs and Roma. They were supposed to come in as interim until the new manager but once ole got the job he had to have hired some specialist coaches , even more so when he isn’t the one taking training.

We are a mess from top to bottom

Thats about the strength of it, pretty good summing up of where we are.

The only way forward for us now is to appoint a heavyweight DOF and for the suits to totally step back from the football. Get someone in who actually knows the game and let them decide how we restructure the football club and let the suits concentrate on the commercial stuff.

The turkeys aren't going to vote for Christmas. The only chance this happens is if our ginger pony tailed overlord gets a clue.
