Served Utd well. Club should have let him go to City in 2010 as a godwill gesture and not have Paul Stretford and Gary Cook leaking all sorts to the press about their meetings...

Bit of a snide, better mentality could have been up there with Ronnie.

No hate or love for the lad.

Complete legend for club and country and i think he is still underrated somewhat. Maybe now he will get the recognition he deserves.

My top 'I was there' Rooney moments include

Debut hatrick.
Stoke away beating Charlton's record
AC Milan late winner at home in CL semi, limbs in the Stretford End.
Winner at Anfield 1-0 2016
Hatrick in the comeback at West Ham 4-2 in 2011. f*** off.
Goal v Arsenal to make it 2-0 (Ruud's revenge)
1-0 Chelsea away CL quaters - top day all round.
Penalty at Blackburn for number 19
Winner vs City League cup semi 2009

and many many more. Thanks for the memories

Fair comment, Eric provided me with more Goons. Rooney was a special talent though.

What a player, and horrifically underrated imo. Record goal scorer for Man United and England, and as hard working and unselfish player anyone could ever wish to have in their squad.

For all the quality goals he scored, there was always so much more to him. Can't remember who it was against, but remember him wanting to come back onto the pitch injured to see out the last few minutes after all the subs had been used up, and doing a decent job with only pretty much 1 leg. Also vaguely remember him doing a job at centre back against Newcastle (I think) for the last 10 - 15 and he was unbelievable even as a makeshift defender.

One of a kind total footballer

Hope he rips it up for years to come as a manager.

majestic player. no one really like him before or since. played the game with the enthusiasm of a kid on the playground; would be chasing back at left back, then 30 secs later he would score. a bull of a player. thank you for the memories, wayne

A truly great player, and one of the most exciting I've ever seen in the shirt, especially in those early years up until about 2010.

That United side between 2007-2009 is still my favourite ever, and that front three of Rooney/Ronado/Tevez during 07/08 was as good as it gets. Wazza was integral to it, too.

He did tail off significantly during the latter few seasons at United, but at his best he was quite simply world-class. Record breaker for United and England, a glorious career.

He explained it's his top 3, i.e. his 3 favourite players.

Phenomenal when he was at his peak.

I have my doubts about his potential as a manager, doesn't seem the brightest or have particularly good communication skills.

I have been wrong many times before though.

I actually get the impression he is fairly smart, certainly by footballer standards. But maybe slightly lazy too, which he can't get away with as a manager. Best of luck, anyway
