He could have achieved a lot more if only he had looked after his body better.

He won every trophy available and is the leading all time scorer for Manchester United and England

Yeah but imagine how good he could have been

You could use the same argument for best, robbo, whiteside and plenty. So what. Yeah, you occasionally get freaks like Ronaldo who are in near perfect condition. Was Ronnie as naturally talented as Wazza? No. Could Wazza have 'achieved more' if he stayed in tip to condition? Possibly. But he didn't exactly do bad

no mate, you need to ease off with the "won the lot" gunfire though. He didn't.

FYI: England are shit with or without the big man.

It depends on what you call 'natural' talent

Rooney had talent in £#%&!ing buckets, he must have had because according to half the people on this forum he was an overweight unfit @#%&! for most of his career yet ended up united and england's top scorer....

I'm not saying Ronaldo wasn't talented (obviously), I'm suggesting that Rooney in supposedly non-peak condition was nearly as good as Ronaldo in Peak condition, both in their pomp. I don't think it's an outrageous suggestion or question to put to the forum

Think it's also worth noting Rooney was probably more important to us up until that 07/08 season, and he was outplaying pros in their prime from such a young age. Two different kinds of players altogether. A lot is said about Ronaldo's drive and dedication but you still don't get to where he's got without having an insane amount of natural talent. Absurd how normal he's made the sublime look at times.

His best years were already past him after 25, never the same after that injury at the end of 09/10. The speed and aggression to his game was largely gone after that

People forget that even when in his prime folk were questioning what his best position was. Why? Because he was underperforming (relative of course to his immense talent).

His positional sense was skittish, to say the least. Often tracked back to full back and stayed there. Would play in net if you gave him the opportunity.

Ronaldo could play wide or through the middle and it didn't matter. Rooney somehow lacked focus. Couldn't sleep without the hoover running. Liked to unwind over several beers and chocolate bars. Athleticism wayned (lol) and the rest is history.

Still one of our best players of all time.

2006 to 2010 Rooney would get into any side. He was a beast.

If anything, he was underrated during that period. The likes of Frank Lampard getting Ballon d’Or top three

Peak Rooney could get in any team, in almost any position. Total footballer.

He gave up most of that period playing second fiddle to Ronaldo because he was more about being a team player and let Ronaldo get all the accolades. He made Ronaldo the player he became imo, just disappointed he never made it for England who we couldn’t give a £#%&! about until about an hour ago.

Yup. Distinctly recall appreciating Rooney more than Ronnie at the time.

Three were rumours (DT penned a story about this) that Ronnie treated Rooney like a personal assistant.
