Beautifully viscous studded rake down Ashley Cole's knee against Arsenal at OT a few years ago too.

Loved Ruud. Still do

Great player but for some reason he's one of my least loved Utd centre forwards.

He was absolute World Class in that time. Then he got injured during 04/05 and was our for quite a while, rushed back for the second leg in Milan. He was never the same player after the injury, lost a yard or two of pace, less mobile and flat footed at times. That's when the football deteriorated - but it was just as much down to having crap like Smith or Miller in midfield.

Fergie was right to let him go when he did, but I wish it'd been on better terms. Still leaves a bad taste imo and a Legend like Ruud deserved better. I hope he gets to play at OT one more time before he retires and I'd have him over Owen tomorrow given the chance.
Class post, Watcher. I agree with every word - especially re the revisionist "Top Red" shite

loved the guy - he used to get the crowd so fired up when he scored. His '£#%&!ing love it' reaction used to piss off my abu mates no end as well.

For me, it's not revisionist 'Top Red' stuff. I was saying for about a year before he left to get rid.

I really liked him when he first came. He scored goals, we were still playing with the freedom from the 3 league titles on the bounce. He scored some great goals, we played some great games, but overall, we began to play better stuff WITHOUT him in the team rather than with him.
He slowed play down, dived, bitched and was detrimental to the team. Sorry if that's revisionist shit. I must be a Top Red me.

PS. Parters - Cantona, Hughes, Cole, Yorke are among my favourite United players. Don't hate forwards, just got high standards

Loved the fella, moody(like me),wore his heart on his sleeve and loved Utd,yeah he could be cheap at times but with a touch like he had in front of goal who gives a flying fook.

Watched him drag Utd to our 2002/03 Premiership when we where struggling as a team.

His hat-trick against Fulham in 03 especially goal number two epitomised him.

I would say Ruud is the best finisher i've ever seen at United.

But then i've seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well.

Becks with the greatest accidental pass of all time.

Ruud was brilliant. My favourite ever United striker.

He knew what United was all about as well. I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

I always remember Ruuds goal against bolton one time, think he missed a penalty and was pretty pissed off, later on he ended up about 4 yards out he couldnt miss but he put the most power on he could and it flew into the top of the net Remember laughing about it at the time.
