agree that he actually played well

if he can maintain this, and it's a big if based on the past four years, he could be an important part of the squad this season.

Like someone else said, arguing over whether we should play Bruno, Beek or Pogba would be a big difference from 12 months ago when the choice was effectively Lingard, Pereira or Mata.

certainly looked more enthusiastic than usual (although still can't be relied upon when the other team has the ball), but.... how effective was he?

are we judging him by his usual standards or by the standard of the rest of the team? not only does he not look the standout player, but he's borderline even in the first team.

needs to improve and be consistent.

definitely - and who knew? - looks better when not really relied on to cover the defence.

When the manager wants a higher tempo (direct quote from Rashford), Tommy Ten-Touch is prancing around telling everyone to slow it down.

I can see where he’s coming from though tbh; plenty of goals come from 50 pass possessions.

Yeah, let Maguire and Shaw pass the ball between each other while they are pressing us, instead of trying to pass through the press. Sure that'd end well...

the problem is not so much how much or how quickly the defenders pass, but rather the types of passes we attempt. far too often it is a pointless ten-yard pass to a midfielder with his back to the opposition goal and a man up his arse. the chances of that being broken up are high. we rarely pass from defence to anyone in space and moving in the right direction or able to turn.

goal kicks to defenders are fine when the opposition is on the half-way line.

same when we attack down the wings. too ready to pass to someone five yards behind instead of looking for the space ahead and having someone run into it.

IIRC the pass referred to above was about throat height and 70mph from Maguire into Pogba, with 3 men hanging off him

how many times does pogba receive a ball and turn it into a shielding contest when it isn't necessary??? far too many times for my liking

agree though.....the defenders force passes into the mids far too much when players are tight on them however these guys should be smart enough to just knock it back without taking a second touch. Nothing wrong with that because at least it moves the opposition and then you can look for that breaking the lines pass into Bruno or a forward.

Shaw on the other hand is just £#%&!ing slow and dumb on the ball

it's pointless. if the man is up pogba's arse, there is already space behind. there is no need to make the pointless pass.
