Default Redundancy

Old man has been with his company nearly 20 years. Today they have told him he has until Friday to accept voluntary redundancy, though they have provided no redundancy terms, or they can change his job. What are his options?

If they are not offering terms then may as well force them into compulsory redundancy.

Is the change of job to worse pay and conditions?

Almost certainly, they are a financial services group and he is the head chef at one of their corporate hq. They have said that his job is position won't exist under the new structure so it would be a demotion. The chances are there will be no new job as the employees will largely going remote and they will not need a staffed kitchen.

Sorry to hear that mate.

Bit shit they're not offering enhanced terms for redundancy. Not much he can do other than let them make him redundant and get another job lined up while they're doing it I'm afraid.

It's shite but at least he is close to retirement, can't imagine what the younger lot in the kitchen are going through. Can they not just make him take a worse job and no redundancy? They've not told him any terms for redundancy, they got him on the phone to tell him that it's either applying for voluntary redundancy (with no idea what it entails) or they could give him a worse job.

No. He doesn't have to accept another job unless it was in his terms and conditions.

They will have to make him redundant from his post if he doesn't
