all over the place, wouldn’t give you a second to breathe touch of a baby rhino so useless on the wing. got a nice deft right foot for a cross |

Naturally left footed & was quite fast so they played me as a left winger.
Sadly, I couldn't run with the ball, couldn't take a man on, couldn't cross a ball & was awful in front of goal. And I was horrifically one-footed. So I then got stuck in nets where my usefulness to the team was marginally better. The only advantage of this was that at no time in my childhood was I even under the illusion I was good enough to play football at any kind of level. I was spared that heartbreak at least. |

Tier 7 was as high as I got but looking back I wished I’d done more physical work to have a bigger impact. I had a knack of scoring goals despite any significant attributes and with a bit more dedication. I think I could have gone higher. For a while I didn’t know what my stronger foot was and as I got older the timing of my headers was one of my best attributes. I wasn’t particularly quick though and as I progressed in men’s football I got more defensive responsibilities that just made me less effective. It got less
Enjoyable the higher I got because I had to think about going backwards rather than getting into the box. I think football is probably my greatest love, I can remember details from games better than anything else in my life. Remember some goals like they happened today and really hope I never forget them. I scored a goal on Hackney Marshes that got us promoted to the prem, 45-50 yards out I put a keepers clearance back over his head on the half volley, to win the game with 4 minutes to go. I can still feel it coming off my foot, so clean. The pitch invasion from lads who’d likely never been outside of Hackney and to that point viewed me with the same suspicion they booted me all over the pitch with in pre season. One kick got us promoted and me golden boot and player of the season. I got mobbed and practically carried back to the pub. Married, baby, it’s still up there. Really wish I’d had a bit more structure 12-14 but was a bit too passive. Left winger/striker, whatever the standard I got in the team but really lacked pace power and a bit of belief. As much as I loved it, I remember training with lads that were so much better than me they made you question why you even bothered. Pros must be a joke. Still don’t get one footedness tho, it’s literally your job. |

Just having a kick about in the park was what he loved the most. like the rest of us, it was just for the enjoyment. Playing for hours & never mind the score - when the light was going it was 'next goal wins'. |

As a kid, expected to succeed Denis Law until Brian Kidd put an end to that. Glad he went from being an EC winner to mediocrity and Arsenal.
Lightening reflexes now a sad memory, became Libero. Fancied myself as Beckenbauer but wasn’t fit to lace Brian Greenhoffs boots. Still, effortlessly swept up the best efforts that Manchester’s strikers could muster and even had time for marvellous forays into the oppo penalty area, only to offer a feeble trickling grass cutter back to their goalie as my legs dissolved to jelly. Stretford End and beer was an excellent consolation for being unappreciated. |

Got released by Aberdeen as a youngster for not being 'big enough'.
Left Mid converted to striker converted to Left and Right winger. Just finished up playing senior football at 39, doubt Ill play next season as cant commit to training twice a week. Was fast as with a good football brain but often played it too safe, great passer and team player though and gargantuan work rate. Stopped playing from 19-23 which was a biiig mistake. Ian St John rated me though |

Keeper. Was a decent right winger and midfielder as a kid but I was the best keeper by a country mile in my school years and in our group of friends so I ended up in nets. Went from 3rd-4th pick to first pick, the team with me in net always won. I was £#%&!ing class to be fair, pulled off some outrageous saves for someone that isn't that tall. All the lads I played with played for teams, and they kept telling me to join because I was better than what they had, but the idea of walking into a team full of mostly strangers and going in goal terrified me, and I already enjoyed the mix of playing with mates for fun and doing my own thing in my spare time. Never would have made it so made the right choice in hindsight.
