Always seems to play the safe option, and never really seems to want the ball. This criticism is all from his play in the opposition half, too, when he's looked even worse defensively. Biggest season in his career, and he'll have no excuses if he stays injury free, as it looks like Ole is going to play him.

He's bounced back before, so I'm not writing him off yet, but he needs to be doing a lot more. Last thing we need is to have a headache at left-back after it's taken 10 years to sort the right-back spot out.
As bad as he is, do we not have coaches that notice these things and who are able to rectify them? So few of our players have actually developed their game with us in the past 6 years, most of the ones who have improved were young players who would have improved just by playing matches, obviously Shaw is an exception.

still can't fathom why we weren't in for sessegnon or tierney at £25m. baffling.

obviously we don't consider it a problem area, but it is.

Yep, Tierney seems an obvious one at that price tbh. Looks miles better than Lukey boy at both ends of the pitch.

Yep. even if we could have moved Shaw for £10m its hardly going to break the bank especially as we would have saved £100k per week on wages at least with either of them 2 joining.

I get the feeling that Ole and the club see him as our % of disabled staff, doing our bit for players in need.

Who hasn't improved then?

And who are their counterparts at other clubs who have shown improvement?

You're setting some pretty tight parameters here... let's hope you can back it up.

Last 6 years per previous statement -
Players who have improved at the club (MU): De Gea, Rashford
Players who haven't improved at the club (MU): Martial, Shaw, Lukaku, Depay, Zaha, Smalling, Jones, Bailly. More available on request.

Players who have improved elsewhere (counterparts): Sterling, Robertson, Salah, Sane, De Bruyne, Henderson, Bernardo Silva, Kane, Son. More available on request.

You raise a good point, though I had previously specified players that hadn’t developed at our club in the previous 6 seasons. Apologies that you didn’t understand.

Don't worry, you have to be very clear when talking to Cream. Takes him a while.

Oh at any time during the past 6 seasons.

Let us further define your criteria:

Quote:

1) Therefore we are only looking for players over a certain age, whose improvement can't be confined to the simple accrual of experience. Or indeed those who might have failed to live up to their promise.

So we can discount Martial, Shaw, Depay, Zaha, Sterling, Robertson, Sane.

Jones and Bailly have been injured far too often to indict their coaches.

Your list is already starting to look a little thin...

Wrong. We are comparing young players (at your request) and their respective development. Most of our young players haven't developed their game and the two I cited that had improved I contend that they did so just by gaining experience, not through any coaching. If we had capable coaches then more than two of the ten players I mentioned would have shown discernible improvement.

If you disagree please state which of those remaining eight players have improved and how.
