Sure you can’t have 11 players the size of Gomes on the pitch but there’s loads of small creative midfielders in top level football these days

Hopefully he’s signs as I still think he has a great chance of making it

He always looks as though he is playing with a bigger ball.

Name another 5'3" top player. Mata is 5'7". Scholes is 5'6", Messi 5'7". Silva 5'7". Maradoina was 5'5" and he is no Maradonna.

Maybe he's a freak of nature though but it's a lot harder to be top class when you are as small as him. You aren't much use at corners. You can be easily marked from throw-ins, you'll rarely win a header etc so you are at a natural disadvantage before you kick a ball.

I thought one of the ball boys Had made the numbers up when he made his debut
