He's had a very good world cup but all his good contributions came on the counter attack when he had space to operate in

Against France when space was at a premium due to how compact and defensive France where he was completely ineffective

We have bigger problems to sort out than Lukaku up top

I don't mind Lukaku, he scores goals, but I really don't have a lot of time for the kind of player he is aesthetically. Horses for courses & all that. We don't need to agree on that side of the game, but their respective contributions do not favour Lukaku in any appropriate metric.
Lukaku put in a better performance against Brazil than Kane did the entire tournament, Lukaku got slated even on here for not anticipating Umtiti missing a regulation clearance twice.

Kane was put straight through by Lingard with Subasic to beat from 6 yards and couldn't put it in, then when he got the rebound still managed to miss from less than a yard and people are floating the idea he had an injury and bad service. For one game in Russia, Glenn Hoddle was praising him for being fouled well.

Does Kane look better for a Spurs team built around him yes, but Lukaku was the better finisher in Russia, maybe if United could get him the ball on the shoulder of the last defender like Belgium do rather than dawdling up the pitch until the defence is set he'd score more.

Considering this is the situation United face most weeks, I'd suggest it's a decent size problem tbh.

Selective instances in the last few weeks don't play out against the last 4 seasons. Kane's simply a better, more productive and creative player. Pretty straightforward really.

Time and time again he proves he can’t be trusted as the sole striker when you need to rely on him. Big games he’s consistently dreadful, not fit to lace Ruud’s Boots. Cut our losses and bin this lummox off.

Absolute shite again.

There’s no way if he didn’t play for us anyone on here would be begging for us to sign him on the evidence of this World Cup.

His goal scoring record for someone who can’t control a football is remarkable tbh

State of the haters piping up after a 3rd place game.

As I said, they were 100% upset over his general performance this world cup. Fuming.

General performance = only scored against two of the worst sides in the entire competition.

Was entirely predictable tbf

Goals obsessed.

The best allround number 9 in the game.

40+ goals minimum next season. This time its for real!.

20 assists as well.

Even in a meh performance like today what a glorious pass for Chadli to open up the english defence. One of the best pre-assists of the tourney...

I reckon Kane and Lukaku are definitely up there as 2 of the best at their job, but Kane has had a dreadful world cup all round and Lukaku started out brilliant but fizzled out badly. His first touch has been much better lately, I wonder if today was all about fatigue.

Going off overall performance Lukaku was probably the best striker at the WC, Cavani had one good game.

Kanes got the golden boot but it's gotta be the worst winner of it ever. Penalties, a couple tap ins and a deflection. His hold up play has been shite, his runs have been shite, link up play shite. TBF he's been playing in the no.10 role a lot.

Kane is usually the much more rounded and consistent player but he's prone to a spurs style slump and Lukaku is always improving. I expect he will close the gap if not overtake him eventually.

We're only adapting to your world

Im sure he will score a bagful next season. If he doesnt but plays like he has done in the last 6 months(much more of a teamplayer and contributor to team play) then thats also good. If he does both then there really will be nothing for the haters to say.

Not many (if any) strikers in world football that we'd have a Fred consensus on. Some serious fredsters wanted Morata ahead of Lukaku and look what happened there.

Benzema has a creditable 1 in 2 for Madrid and we'd be tearing our hair out with him.

The arse seeing on here if Kane played for us and had that world cup etc

Lukaku is young and hit 30 in his first season. I remember when players used to be given a year to settle in but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. Hes got his faults but his mentality is as tough as anyone at the club and he'll improve imho. And that's after a stellar first season. Not sure of the details over the cup final but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He'll be captain soon. Would like more players with his mentality, if not his first touch.
