Funny thing is, I remember us having the 2 best chances of the game.
The first half is easily forgotten when forced to endure the second

Mkhi and Herrera both have to score, imo, story of our £#%&!ing season, I can only think of the one with Aguero on the stretch at the death that was anything like as gilt edged..

Scored a hat-trick against Munich in a dead rubber once..

Another one from Agüero early on but yeah. Mkhi really should have. Ander's was a bit harder than it looked because he was leaning so far forward to reach the ball.

I thought Herrera just didn't realise where he was, he seemed to think he was in front of the goal rather than past the post.

Dunk's got blue Harry Monk dribbling down his chin.

Ball comes firing towards you like that it's always difficult to send it back across goal. Just like Aguero's right at the end - hardly sitters.

Our first half was fine under the circumstances but in the second we really should have done more to attack, tbh I think players have to shoulder some responsibility, the lack of composure in possession is astounding, as is the inability to read a game and buy fouls to frustrate opponents/run the clock down, something that we also have no ability to overcome when it happens to us.

Also not just last night but our clearances in the defensive third are simply shocking, three times in three games this week where we just hack at the ball in our own box only for it to land with opposition players 10 yards away, it's another sign that shows we have a way to go before turning into a top team though I feel we are going in the right direction.

Saying that the best chance of the match fell to us and arguably two of the best three were ours. Not really sure why Guardiola had that knowing smirk in his interview when he said he knew that was exactly how we would set up, maybe next time let your players know so they don't spend 90 minutes trying the exact same thing over and over and failing each and every time? Was a speeded up Van Gaal performance.

Totally agree. Why actually think when someone else is paid to do it for you?

It's always going to be a problem setting this team up to defend deep and counter because we can't counter*, so all we end up doing is defending deep.

*If Martial's initial ball to Herrera for his goal against Burnley had been to almost anyone else (like Lingard), the move would have ended right there.

we can counter. quite a few of our goals and near misses have come from counters lately, probably since turn of the year. recall mhiki's goal v wigan as an early example. we're much better than we were. we just aren't clinical enough in the top games where the entire strategy hinges on being exactly that. rashford's goal v chelsea was a rare exception.
