Seems like an awful lot of money for a 19 year old who hasn’t proved himself in any of the major European leagues.

For that money you would want a cast iron certainty.

We’ve cornered ourselves. Woodward’s/the club’s track record of overpaying massively for players and then giving them extravagant contracts, the fact that we are now signing players to get back to where we should be, instead of signing players to maintain our place at the top etc. It all adds up and right now we aren’t the most attractive proposition for young talent.

Is the champions league not major enough?

He’s probably the nearest that United could get to the finished article without paying a price that’s beyond ridiculous. He’s scored goals against grown men in the top leagues wherever he’s played.

I think our problem if we signed him would be making enough chances for him. He’d probably do better at Dortmund.
