Exclamation Vegetarianism

Iíve gone veggie. Bit of an experiment tbh, been thinking about it for a while and was tipped over the edge when I watched Game Changers on Netflix.

Iím a week in and itís absolutely no bother so far, I definitely feel better for it. Itís a bit carby though and Iíve been leaning heavily on the more processed stuffs that are available, which isnít ideal.

Any tips/winning recipes from the forum veggies?

Thumbs up

Ignore the people who try and trip you up.

People are awful and take it as though you are attacking them and their family.

Chip butties

Beans on toast

Mushrooms and tomatoes on toast for a breakfast treat

Sweet potatoes are ace.

Try and make veggie soups. Cheap and cheerful.

Best of luck

Literally just had mushrooms and tomatoes on toast with beans

Iím enjoying how quick cooking is and how much easier washing up is so much bread, rice, pasta and potatoes though.

My only beef* with veggies is that if you are becoming a veggie cos of the mistreatment of animals, unless you go vegan, you're a hypocrite.

* See what I did there?

I eat vegetarian meals probably four days of the week and I quite enjoy it. I love meat but I do find it hard going if I have it every night.

Mainly pastas for me which is a piece of piss and Iíve just had a frittata that Iíve now mastered even though it had half a cows worth of cheese in it.

Can eat egg chips and beans any say of the week too.

Be prepared to hear people repeat the same 1970s claims to you as if youíve never heard them before.

And like Jez says, people take it as a personal attack.

Last few days weíve had

Sweet potato, spinach and lentil dahl
Spicy coconut milk, veg and noodle soup
Brie and apple flammekeuche
Stuffed aubergine and pasta
Beans on toast

Donít listen to the bullshit about it making you weak, I havenít eaten meat for 17 years, play football once a week and did martial arts until a back problem forced me to stop.

In genuine disbelief at the fake meats you can get these days.

I was a horrific vegetarian for ten years. 8th Day did the best meat substitutes but at a high price both calorific and moneywise.

BBC Good Food Guide has some very nice risotto recipes on there, provided you have the patience to make them.

where to start. so much good veggie food. some of the substitutes are a bit bland (though way better than 40 years ago), but you should try a few, because some are way better than others. I have personal favourites, obvs.

and try pret's vlt.

the only way you will get bored or not have a balanced diet is if you lack imagination or common sense.
