His wife is taking it hard, apparently.

It’s what he would’ve wanted.

RIP

RIP. Legend of the game when legend meant something; now it just means some @#%&! who brings a big bag of crisps to a pub table.

A truly sad day this.

Hard to explain what an icon of football Pele was.

He was the best. There wasn’t any debate when we were kids.

He seems to have fallen out the GOAT discussion in recent years. Not sure why, because he seemed truly remarkable. Especially given the era. Way before my time and sometimes the clips of older players don’t age well, but he looked like a modern day star ahead of his time.

An icon and maybe the most famous player of all time. Before people were even famous.

A sad day for anyone who likes football.

No he hasn’t. You get people who can’t see past their own generation/era so they’ll limit their discussion to Messi/Ronaldo/Maguire, but I probably see Pele rated as the out and out GOAT more than anyone, including Maradona and Heskey.

A legendary pair. NQAT.

Pele winning 3 World Cups will be hard to beat. Has to be right up there.

It's tough though as the game changes - the pitches, the fitness levels, the tackles, the rules etc.

How would Zidane have coped against the Italian defenders Diego had to face? He got rattled by that Everton defender ffs.

RIP. I just hope they manage to close the coffin lid easily.

Those are the people I’m talking about. That sort of modern day stat £#%&!er type that seem to think it’s between Messi, Ronaldo and possibly Maradona.

He was the greatest as outlined by having the audacity to try that
Only George might have thought of it.

Another audacious one was trying to do the keeper from his own half nearly 30 years before I next saw it when Becks managed it

That and his 3 world cups

Diego Messi and Ronnie were powerful close control freaks nothing else
