This is what frustrates. Obvs we don't really know what goes on behind closed doors, in terms of offers the club (and other clubs) make for players. For every deal where a player (Hazard) states it started 12 months ago there's stuff like this where it seems a club will simply go in and respect the seller and pay what they want. Deal done in a matter of days.

In terms of United, if reports are true Palace have let it be known a figure that they will consider so United decide to offer a % of that amount + the rest on what is probably the never never. No wonder negotiations drag out and/or 'we' piss off clubs.

United also seem very good at dragging out sales or offering improved terms/contracts for players who actually can't find another club (Fellaini, Mata). We'd sooner give deals to shite as opposed to signing decent replacements, because it's cheaper. Bonkers.

Yeah, I think it's why Barca, Real or Bayern etc sometimes seem more assertive. There's a time for negotiations, but when it's a player you really feel could make a difference don't try to be clever just get it done. Classic example was Ronaldinho. Kenyon had months to do it and by all accounts when he finally sorted it he tried to go back in and re-negotiate, which just pissed everyone off and before you know it he's signed for Barca.

Can see Woodward being a similar chancer. Sometimes just put your ego aside and prioritise just getting the deal done.
