Cool Re: *Official* United v Arsenal Match Thread - Teams, Links and Rooney better score

Carrick didn't have to go and get the ball from the CB's because they are extremely proficient when it comes to bringing the ball out and starting play. In the case of a game where both teams are squeezing the play and the centre of the pitch has 6 CM's congesting the area, the last thing you want is to play the ball into there, as that is asking for trouble, no time, no space. So they either go around it, using the wide men and full backs who can push on, or you bypass the bottleneck and go over it to the front man, forcing the defending midfield to have to face their own goal.

It's fairly simple, really. Arsenal failed because they try to play through the middle, as a result they created £#%&! all because the Unied midfield and defence were always in front of them, facing the play.

United adapt, Arsenal inept.

I'm sure VDS was working all weekend on goalkicks, and Fergie told Carrick he didn't have to worry about getting on the ball because we were going to focus on lumping high balls up to expose the Arsenal CBs (who won pretty much everything that was put in their direction).
here's an idea: why don't you actually respond to the point made instead of making a completely different one up?

nobody said we 'always' take short kicks
nobody said we take short kicks as 'standard' (whatever the £#%&! that means)
nobody said 'any' long kick is a tactical ploy (though it clearly is a decision by the keeper based on something or other, unless you think it's random)

the arsenal cbs didn't win everything. rooney won a fair few balls and, more importantly, we picked up the second balls when their clearances fell to us.

the point that's being made is that united playing some long passes is not evidence of carrick failing to be available. which is pretty £#%&!ing obvious tbh and i really have no idea why you're bothering to dispute it, especially as it says nothing about whether or not carrick was playing well or not, just that the particular stick you're using to beat him isn't the right one.

rooney v terry with the ball at his feet..... deep joy.

rooney v terry in the air..... we have to listen to another £#%&!ing jt is da man interview.

right, so ferguson decided to stifle midfield and hoof the ball from back to front asap so often because carrick didn't show for the ball off the centre backs... and it was £#%&! all to do with the fact ferguson using an extra body in stifling said midfield still didn't give him any real confidence that we could play a genuine possession game with any great success

throb in "best squad in world cannot put out midfield comfortable in possession" shock.

next up, throb blames glazers for lack of investment.

fail. again.

united's passing is often top notch. the point is that keeping possession in midfield isn't usually the reason ferguson blankets it against arsenal.
