Top top red. Much like Charlton you thought he'd live forever.

‘Beckenbauer is one of only three men to have lifted the World Cup as both a player and a manager, along with Brazil's Mário Zagallo and France's Didier Deschamps’

Squeaky bum time for the water carrier?

RIP Der Kaiser. Probably the same level of loss to Germans as Sir Bobby was to us.

Made a fantastic pair of trainers too.

Maybe the greatest defender ever, which is all you really need to say.

Der Kaiser. Sir Bobby was so good that Beckenbauer was assigned to mark him 1-2-1 in the 1966 final. The ultimate sweeper. The last of the true legends of that era. RIP.

Krauts were so feared of Charlton they assigned their best player to keep him quiet in the 66 final, which allowed Hurst freedom and then we saw what happened 4 years later when we subbed Charlton, when 2-0 up, to save his legs for the next sf. bad decision. Beckenbauer took over as he continued to do for the rest of his career. 2-3 to Germany. Magnificent player. Easily in the top 5 in my lifetime and the others were all strikers. Not just a sweeper (libero; but would assist and score goals. Never seen a player control a game like he did before or since. No imposing brute strength just elegant, easy control. Like he was playing against kids.

Varane at his best x10 or something.

Hated him.
