Yeah, in the past decade it’s been Barca, Real & Athletico top 3 every season. Apart from 11-12 season where Valencia snuck into 3rd.

I actually don’t think the standard was that bad up until a few years ago. Sure you had the top teams but in the 2000s pretty sure it was us, Chelsea and Arsenal doing the same thing (with Liverpool hovering) here. Also, weren’t English teams getting routinely beaten by Spanish teams in the EL and CL?

It’s awful now though. Even the top teams have looked woeful.

It’s not like they keep it in cash under a mattress (they probably do) - there will be money available for what they deem to be a sound purchase/investment.

Just read today that Atletico Madrid have similar-sized debts. I can imagine Barca and Real having revenues to service theirs, but not sure about Atletico.

Real have put out an official statement denying the want to quit La Liga and register as a English Premier League club

Laporta: "Our salaries represent 103% of the club's total income. That's 20-25% more than our competitors."

Club debt confirmed at €1.35m/£1.14m

Seems like a pretty sound and sustainable way to run a business

Keeping up with the Joneses innit. In this case the Jones being City & PSG

As I say, there's no doubt the ESL will happen within a few years. It's the only way they'll be able to keep up as a 'big' club.

Best chance we've had in a long time. But last time English clubs were dominating Europe, which looks to be the case again over the next few years, we were nowhere.

I assume you are referring to the late 70s and early 80s, but the last time english clubs were dominating, we won one and got to two other finals

Liverpool - 2005
Arsenal - finalist 2006
Liverpool - finalist 2007
United - 2008 (finals 09 and 11)
Chelsea - 2012 (final 2008)
