Joey Barton: the only interesting man in football ?

Barton saved his most withering remarks for Barry. "Did you see the game against Germany at the World Cup?" he asked. "If you watch the fourth goal, when [Mesut] Ozil was up against Barry, it was like the hare and the tortoise.

"Barry's got a very good agent," Barton offered as an explanation for the player's success. "He's also discreet and always agrees with the manager. He's like the guy who sits in the front row and listens to the teacher. I certainly don't lose any sleep when I play against him."

He's clearly been a massive @#%&! in the past, but there's very, very few in the game who'd give an interview that candid. The Barry abuse is superb!

Took the piss out of Torres at SJP aswell before he left. Had a cracking season aswell.

Got to agrree with him about Barry. He's still a @#%&! though.

Is he very good?

Not sure to be honest. At times he looks good but he's never really looked any better than the likes of Parker, Barry and the other average English central midfielders who gain acclaim whilst never really achieving anything.

Gerrard and Lampard are 'very good' players (or at least were). Barton is merely a level above 'distinctly average'

He's better than Barry & actually looks like technique & ability mean something to him as opposed to running around a lot & passing sideways.

Not arsed. I've said it before but I think Barton would do alright for us.

OK, he's not the player that's gonna see us usurp Barca as the best on the planet but I think he's a better option than playing defenders in that position week-in, week-out.

We need two midfield signings anyway, would be quite content if Barton arrived alongside someone else...ie someone better.

From a tash point of view, I'd sign him tomorrow. What he did with his tash last season was classy, distinct and let's face it, brave. I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting a decent tash bossing our midfield and I can think of no one better to carry one.
