Those are all pretty much the same thing, but the salient point is that the ball has to be played. So Pea wasn't offside the moment he came back on the pitch, as Rafael hadn't yet shot.

doesn't that assume that everyone on the filed knew he hadn't shot though?

some of them may have thought he had already shot when Hernandez re-entered, or may have been confused by Hernandez suddenly arriving in their peripheral vision.

it all happened so quickly.
