Default Play-offs for 4th CL spot

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...950993,00.html

I bet it was the dippers idea. They know they'll be able to come 7th in the future and fluke their way into the CL (probably on penalties).

the top-4 clubs including dippers were agaisnt this idea according to one of the papers. all other 16 want it, which means it will go through since only 14 votes are needed to accept a proposal.

it will be funny seeing fulham and birmingham city in the champions league and getting swatted out in teh qualifying

When I first read about this I thought: "Great, this will make it more interesting". Interesting seeing sides like Spurs, Villa or, even Fulham in the Champions League.

Then it dawned on me, the dippers would in the play-off every year regardless. Even by finishing seventh, as mentioned above.

Shit idea.

If we are going to have 4 places then they should go to 1st, 2nd then the winners of the FA cup and League cup.

Might make the cup competitions a bit more interesting that way.

Can't argue with that. Certainly for the FA Cup.

should go back to the team that wins its domestic league and nobody else.

or just call the tournament `the champions league and 3 other teams from your league that weren't quite good enough.`

It would mean the clubs in it were open to change every season and probably stop teams from including monies from CL participation in their budgeting.

I'm all for it.

Imagine the rush for FA Cup this season if you got into the CL through it, Birmingham, Fulham, Palace, Villa, WBA...

Quality stuff.

Nothing bugs me more in modern Football more than [SIZE="3"]'THE RACE FOR FOURTH PLACE' ...excuse me?..4th? Since WHEN is that an achievement.
The Champions League should be for the Champions & the runners up should have to pre-qualify & that's your £#%&!ing lot. Third & fourth can get £#%&!ed. 'Top Four'/'The Big Four' A load of shite.

it may be skyjacked and annoying but it is the fairest way of deciding.

can't agree at all with those saying give it to a cup competiton, a few lucky draws and tiny bit of luck and it's yours. that can never compare to 38 identical fixtures.

the playoff idea is a load of shit as well. sky will of course lap it up as it will yet another superwhateverthe£#%&!grandslateamdeathmatchshite... sunday.

Here's an idea.

Premier League Champions = European Cup/Champions League
Premier League Runners-Up = European Cup/Champions League (preliminary round)
Premier League 3rd & 4th = Europa League thing.
FA Cup Winners = Europa League thing.
League Cup Winners = Europa League thing.

That's your lot.
Rewarding teams with the chance of lifting European Football's most coveted prize for finishing FOURTH (in some/most cases anything between 10 & 25pts off top spot ala' the murderers in 2005) is a complete disgrace in my opinion.

Should be 3 Cups imo.

The Champions league - Where every teams champions enter including teams like San Marino etc. Not sure how many countries participate but it should be 8 groups of 4 teams with the top 2 advancing, it shouldn't be seeded either so you could end up with a draw of 4 no-hopers or 4 big guns. It would make it alot more interesting, anyone can predict who is going to get through in nearly every group each year.

The Uefa Cup - 2nd, 3rd, 4th and the F.A Cup winners. Straight knockout competition. Unseeded

Some other cup - 5th, 6th and the League Cup. Straight knockout competition. Unseeded.

The cups at the moment are so pointless. Champions league every year is so monotonous. Might as well just play the last 16 the way it stands.

They have playoffs for European places in Holland. Fans of every club campaigned against it but were ignored... it's not just here where fans are the last thing to be considered, if at all.

the expansion of the CL to appease the G14 (before it disbanded) avoided the push for the european superleague as it kept the money men at the superclubs happy. as romantic an ideal it is to say 'only' champions in it like the old days, it is simply never ever going to be that way again.

IIRC they were scrapped a few years back, after Ajax got knocked out by some (relative) minnows. Amazing, that

Its bad enough, as MJ said that they have this 'race for 4th place'. Teams have 38 games to qualify so they should stop £#%&!ing moaning if they dont get there. Same with the play offs in the lower leagues, 3rd place can finish 20 points ahead of 6th yet 6th can win promotion. Ludicrous.
