I’m sure the majority of pro-Mourinho Reds would have, like myself, hoped that he would bring back the winning in the short term and be able to adapt over time.

But you’re right, he is what he is. At any club, without exception, there will be difficult times. This is where the character of a manager is vital. Unfortunately it seems he was always going to give in to the @#%&!tier side of his personality.

the three golden rules of tabloid journalism.

1. make it interesting
2. make it short
3. and if you have to, make it up.

I've already tweeted the bastard asking why he's completely made a story up. Not expecting a reply

"Never spoke to Alexis about that in my life" were Rojo's words half an hour ago (in spanish )

I don't think many people really thought that tbh. Maybe that he would change his ways incrementally.

The fans were signing songs about him "playing the way United should" when barely a ball had been kicked.

Also remember all the "he loves Tuanzebe/Mensah" etc %@#$&!s.

Was pure delusion.

Anyway, we move on

For me initially he was very conscious of the traditions of the club and tried to adere to them (he randomly subbed on a keeper when we were 4-0 up once just to add a youth debut to his list). But quickly realised the view from the top wasn't all that good and threw it aside.

United wasn't his dream job as a lot of people thought. Just another club on his CV as far as he's concerned.

I do think he genuinely wanted to be here, but as soon as things got a bit tough he reverted to type.

I suppose it was naive to expect much different with hindsight.
