Doesn't surprise me one bit, nor other lads who've been to the games when Van Gaal was in charge. That is in no way meant as a topredism - simply that you can see the game from other angles. From the Stretty and Scoreboard ends, you could see channels open up as they passed the ball around. Under Fergie, there would have been a through ball and a runner but the players seemed too scared to get out of position.

While you need discipline in the team, football's as much an art as a science and that's where top players make the different - Robbo and Scholes knowing when to time runs into the box for example.

Don't believe it anyway. End of that game he waited on the pitch congratulated every player coming off

Anyway nice to see Herrera took the instruction not to score any goals to heart.

I full backed LvG to start with and thought he was going to drag us kicking and screaming in to the 21st century.

I still believe that if he'd had a squad full of clever, enthusiastic and willing youngsters to mould he would have succeeded spectacularly.

Reality was that he had a squad of demoralized older players who obviously had little enthusiasm for LvG's brand of thinking football.

I get that modern players are whiny little drinks 'o water, but good managers get games out of the players they have, and they certainly get games out of the players they buy. VG largely did neither, which is why he's no longer here.

The system he wanted was 3-5-2 but bought the wrong players for it. £#%&! up from day one. As much as you try to back him at the time because he's United's manager you get to a point where you realise it's not working. I'd have accepted bad results with good performances and vice versa but we weren't getting either.

another thing is he kept faffing around with it. never knew what was going to happen match to match. god he was ill equipped for the job. near the end the club looked proper f@@ked. DFM was no picnic but he was made to look better after the LVG years. what a massive tool.

LVG won the FA Cup and never aspired to be City or make it difficult for Newcastle. Nowhere near as bad as that shitstain in the underpants of football. LVG's methods proved to be outdated.

Had we had Mourinho straight after Fergie, there was a good chance we'd have got at least two of the targets was bleating about and wouldn't have been burdened with bog brush either.

jose was my 1st choice because he is organized. he may have known who to play where. problem with LVG is he didn't make it difficult for anyone but united supporters. DFM was a disaster NQAT but LVG spent millions and kept boggy for two seasons didn't he. United could sell half of LVG's signings (i think we have already) and still not suffer. both were wrong , both not up for it.

Ancelotti or Mourinho were the obvious choices to follow Fergie IMO

Both had won English championships, both had a track record of working with experienced ageing squads (Ancelotti at Milan, Mourinho at Inter) and I think both would have won the league easily the next season with one or two additions to what we had

Instead we hired a complete and utter failure that set us back years
