Having said that, contract management is something he should be spending more time on. £100m+ worth of players (what we paid, not what they're worth today) potentially signing pre-contracts with other clubs and rocking the boat in 6 weeks time, in an inflated market - very bizarre.

We have 1 year extensions we can exercise on all the players involved. It's how United structure the contracts and is very sensible. I'm surprised other teams don't do it.
It means we can ditch players like Blind earlier when it's clearly not working out. If they turn out to be good we exercise the option and try and negotiate a longer deal.
