Schmikes was a beast. Massive contribution to our 90's success. Better keeper than vds, the city debacle has clouded many peoples memories.

This. DeGea might turn out to be our best-ever but at this moment in time to say he is better than VDS is ridiculous.

i think a lot have either forgotten or weren't about when schmikes was pivotal to our success. Probably the best keeper ever to play.

No doubt about that,I'm not comparing Ddg to schmeichel though. We're talking about van Der sar.

That wasn't down to the 'keeper though, more about the way we played.

he wouldn't remember that as he wasn't around back then. vds>smikes because he's seen vds play.

Yes and the discussion had deviated away from your quite absurd thread title. If you read the thread you would see I pointed out that judgement was probably clouded because schmeichels best time at united was a long while ago. Now £#%&! off and annoy someone else with your useless £#%&!ing first in the alphabet nonsensical username. I going to bed.

A-men.

As ever on here... Top Red credentials seem to be the overriding factor.

Remember the latter half of 95-96 season.. we were rocking.. but Schmeichel refused to concede.. a thin green line keeping out the hordes..

He'd do his bit and just hope that we'd get a winner at the other end ( usually Eric ).

Having said that VDS runs him close. Just wish we'd bought him many years earlier instead of having to indulge that arse Barthez.

But, as mentioned earlier.. can't help thinking that all the De Gea love is because he's receiving flack from elsewhere.

Nothing makes us put the rose tinted glasses on as much as seeing one of our own be criticised the media and other football fans.

The flack Schmikes gets from our "supporters" pains me.

Don't deserve our club.
