Question Excel Help

Got a family income and expenditure chart that I do monthly so I can keep track of my finances. One line says spends which I usually just have a nominal sum and give myself that amount to spend in my head.

However Iíve realized (especially since my missus is now added) Iím not tracking my spending properly. What I want to do is make a separate column so I can list everything ie

Pub - 270
Golf - 450
Cinema - 250
Total - 970

The line item in my spends needs to say the same 5000 but I want to reduce the individuals total without reducing the 5000 if that makes any sense? But I want that line item to increase once the individual sheet goes about 5000.

Basically I just need a formula in that line if anyone can help

you're not making much sense.

=IF(C1<5000,5000,C1)

Where C1 is the cell on the individual's sheet. Basically, if its under 5000, your line says 5000, if its over 5000, your line returns what is in C1.

Itís in dhs

Canít think of anyway to explain it. Iíll try and do a screenshot.

Iím thinking it would be

C4=5000, IF(julyspendD20=5000,5000, IF(julyspendD20>5000, julyspendD20)

Or something like that but I know thatís not how IF works

If you know double entry*, you can make the calculations with counters and/or polished stones like the monks used to do in days of yore

=if(julyd20<= 5000, 5000, julyd20) should do what you want.

Would =IF(SUM(B2:C2)<5000,5000,B2:C2) work if you were doing the addition in this cell?
If you are just going off a cell value then IF(D20<5000,5000,D20) should be ok..

Why not have 2 sheets one with your nominal 5000 in your main account and that one that actually details what you have spent?

My son was going on about some app, Mint?, that tracks what you spend where.

Not sure I want to know how much I spend in the localÖ.
