Who gives a £#%&! what the aspergers bald #@&%! says. He'll run his players into the ground for 3 years until they're all mentally and physically exhausted from his over-bearing, obsessive ways and then he'll £#%&! off to PSG or something.

You see what people like him want, when they've got all the cards stacked in their favour, is for the other team to come and try and beat them in a game of passy-passy keepball ,so they can just steamroller them. When teams turn up to spoil, dig in and relinquish possession in favour of keeping team shape to frustrate them, then people like Guardiola try and claim some sort of moral high ground to put pressure on the other team. It's a way of deflecting blame away from yourself for failing to adapt. Arsenal have been doing it for about 15 years.

One of the (many) strengths of Fergies great United sides was their ability to deal with opposing sides using either of these tactics.

Want to try and play us? we'll outplay you. Want to try and kick the shit out of us? we'll kick the shit out of you.

There is a bit of that, but they do genuinely look down on it, more so from big teams.

Remember Cruyff on Liverpool and Bayern: "They're all about name and prestige but, in football terms, we're talking about two horrible teams. You might think I'm exaggerating but in my opinion a team are horrible if they are incapable of stringing three passes together."

Guardiola likes to suggest he doesn't sneer at other methods. But like Cruyff there is clearly a supercilious element.

This is what Mourinho was getting at with his poets and humble guys speech after the Europa final. Having of course beaten Ajax.

Vaguely inspired by this thread:

To your earlier point, we can play football, we can play hard..

You like kick me, fine, just understand I'm up ready to get you back. Just maybe a bit harder.

Great times.

Big Jorgers Valdano

"Put some shit hanging from a stick in the middle of this mad, crazy, passionate stadium and there are people who will tell you it's a work of art. It's not. It's shit on a stick."

I hope something catastrophic happens to their team bus, something that keeps their best players out for a huge chunk of the season, nothing serious, just leaves them struggling. They are between us and the title and Chelsea will chase hard but just fall short. Unless Jose' can work the oracle ...... again.

it is laughable that they resort to this but I also kind of grudgingly respect them for trying to actively get the kids in - something united have lacked over the years

Obviously no one will turn up anyway, which will make it even more laughable and they'll all be whinging that we're the TV game

Aye, for shit like the Burton game we should be doing something like this. Still had more for Burton than they did for the CL.
