This thread title is a reminder that we had our transfer business done and dusted early that summer. Don't think we have managed that since.

Last summer?

I know Poggers was later, but that was due to the Euros and United/Juve agreeing to help them get their business done too.

Ferguson got 20 odd games a year out of Anderson, then Moyes arrived and he got 8. He never got near his potential, but he was rarely as bad as he is sometimes portrayed and on his day he was good at carrying the ball out of midfield in a way we missed until Pogba arrived. Plus he was always chuffed as a @#%&! to wear the shirt.

Our best summer for transfers ever in terms of ambition?

Signed two of the brightest talents in football, a CL winning midfielder (although how he passed a medical escapes me) and Carlos Tevez

This to add to a side which looked like it had the best centre back pairing around, the best left back and two of the best attackers in world football.

It's sad that that was the last time we would show any ambition to be the best club in the world, imo.

this. which seems almost paradoxical.

that squad never, ever got the praise it deserved.

they won the league and european cup double FFS.

Surprised at that tbh

Isn’t the club in termoil after a load of players tore up their contracts because fans invaded a training session or something?

How old is he now anyway, 30/31? Any specific reason he’s gone downhill so much?

I know I could google this but..

I think that spell he had here where he barely played for a couple of years was the beginning of the end. I remember pre-season 2014 before we sold him he looked a little sluggish. Managed to get by for a couple of years but has been pretty much knackered for a while.

Not sure if he was technically ruled out with injury, but he's been on the fringes at Lazio last season. Not played anywhere near enough. Shame because he's been a great player for Portugal; always showed at every tournament. At times more reliable than Ronaldo.

Edit - he started six games all last season. Just two of them in Serie A.

Named on the bench 36 times so fair to say just not up to it.

Cheers Siders. Shame, he was great in flashes. The time he tried to steal Ronnie’s goal on the line but got pulled up for offside was epic bantz as well

Genuinely think that upset Ronnie a lot more than losing to Barca in '09.
