The Return of JC

Question Has Ronaldo scored

more than one free kick for us? Not counting rebounds or whatever. Just a dead ball struck straight in.

There was that one against Portsmouth last year and I can't think of another.

(I'm not counting his first goal for the club because I think that was a cross)

I think they're afraid to tell him he's shite at freekicks. Lack of leadership on the pitch that one.
Everytime he puts the ball down, and does his little routine, oh he looks serious this time, and it's straight into the wall, or if he's lucky, a half a mile high and wide.

I think that makes it more annoying.

So serious, calculated, like it's a science when really he's just hoping for the best.

He always seems so disappointed when they inevitably fly over the bar.

You think he'd be used to it by now.
Seriously though, can anyone remember another one?

I don't mind when he has a pop from 30+ yards to be fair, worth a go I s'pose. It's when it's closer in than that and he employs exactly the same technique, giving it virtually no chance of working, that bothers me. Surely someone else could take the closer ones? Rooney seemed able against Fernebahce a few years ago and I bet Tevez could do it too.

but surely ronaldo has got more ability than most players in the world to be able to curl the ball round the wall from 20-25 yards.

as shite as ronaldo's free-kicks are, i don't think he is alone. the quality of free-kicks in the premier league, even from so-called specialists like gerrard, is very poor.

also, i think as united fans we have been spoiled in the past by some truly great free-kick takers (irwin immediately springs to mind). having said that, a little variation to simply blasting it as hard as you can, and some preparation in training wouldn't go amiss.

He's scored two against Pompey in his time and one against Fulham.

Ronaldos 'technique' is basically leathering it on the valve as hard as possible and seeing what happens. No finesse involved really.

Beckham was a better free kick taker than Irwin, without any question. There will be few players who have EVER scored more free kicks than him.

no doubt, especially as he had the same monopoly on them that ronaldo is now having.

that's not what i was saying though. i was saying irwin's free-kick to goal ratio was higher.
