Unhappy Paris on lockdown

Protestors protesting against fuel price rises. Whole of the centre on lockdown as police try to stop them reaching the presidential palace. Tear gas and cannons used and one man arrested after having an explosive device.

My wife is over there and was evacuated from the metro. Feel sick.

They tried to start that shit in Belgium. Some of Wallonia joined in. In Flanders just old them to f*** off.

In France, when a leader or the government is seen to be elitist, arrogant and out of touch with the common people, they protest and let them know how they feel.

In parts of England when leaders or the government is seen to be elitist, arrogant and out of touch with the common people, they revere them, touch their forelocks and consider themselves grateful that such obviously superior beings would spare the time to rule over them.

This isn't related to the price of crude.

It's the Govt increasing fuel prices, regardless of the cost of crude.

Apparently it's an initiative by the government to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels...which whilst the concept is laudable, it's implementation via hiking fuel prices shows a clear disconnect between the government's thinking and the people they are supposed to represent.

Ironic that over here we're bringing London to a standstill over the effects of fossil fuels. lol.

Go home the general public, you're drunk.

Though there is the odd exception - poll tax protests

Very rare.

Usually we restrict ourselves to writing strongly worded letters to The Times & muttering about it whilst watching the news.

It is strange the rest of the world treats Macron like the new leader of the pack in the Tony Blair / Bill Clinton way but within France he has abysmal approval ratings.

Nostalgia for the good old days of hegemonic "centrism" is a big part of it, nqat.

Personally, never trusted him from the off #sage

Trudeau does at least make a few left wing gestures, though. More like Obama in that respect, perhaps.
