Football Playing out from the back.....

When did we specifically get into this absolute nonsense......?

Even with better ball players it's disgusting...

Almost gave away a goal (should have) when Maguire £#%&!ed it, puts so Much pressure on young lads like Williams etc and does nothing much than pit pressure on the midfield to drop deep.

I'm sure it's come from the new rule of the goal keeper being allowed to take and pass short, or were trying to emulate other teams that can do it... we're even doing it from short keeper throws..

There was a moment late on when DDG took a "normal" goal kick, he hoofed it up and we won the first header and were on the attack...

It's a shocking decision by the team to continue to play this way...

Bring back big goal kicks.

Or at least mix it up a bit.

Doesn't help that we don't have anyone that could be considered a target for a long ball in the front 5 or 6...

Odd game to go all in on it but experimentation is what we expect from the super progressive, visionary coach that is OLE.

This is a problem we just lose the ball - All the back 4 are comfortable on the ball but we need better outlets in the midfield - if we play two passes up to Lingard he loses it.

The advantage about playing the ball out is that it takes out several players who are pressing creating more space.

Players should have the confidence and ability to take the ball out from the back. Hoofing it up to a centre forward is effective at times but very predictable.

You got to mix it up.

Works on FIFA to get their team spread out. Relies on solid passing though so we’re £#%&!ed.

This is a big problem imo.

It was the same in the Liverpool game and parts of the Burnley game too

We’re forced into constantly playing out from the back.

Thought it worked well and provided the lads with much needed confidence in their abilities.

Matic was perfectly suited to it.

Also doesn’t help that we have a goal keeper that struggles to make a simple 5 yard pass let alone a lofted long ball in behind a press.

There’s alternatives to either hoofing it to the forward or playing it out across the area. Reminds me of when Arsenal tried it with Cech in goal. Didn’t work too well for them either

We got rid of all the big players.

Agree its a shit idea to always go short though.

except he turns slowly and Lingard was playing 10 - Fred's got much better at taking it in the turn.

Bit difficult to say it doesn’t work when we beat city (twice!)

People used to do it on FIFA about ten years ago and people always used to get caught.

Now teams are ACTUALLY doing it.

That's rich coming from you. You've been all over Ole the past couple of weeks. Seems to go unnoticed, however.
