The insult isn’t related to the rent boy profession, it’s the implication of homosexual activity that is the intent.

I always assumed they were called the rent boys as they all went for the coin when the russian took over. no one was ever accusing them of being gay (except Le Saux perhaps just because he read the Grauniad)

You may well be right about the mercenary nature of players in the Abramovich era, but I also think that the chant references the fact that the Kings Road area of Chelsea was where affluent and influential gentlemen could buy a bit of #@&%!.

I chant(ed) it because the point is the players were selling themselves for cash rather than because Chelsea had any actual history or culture as a club
