Shit article. Says he's from salford. News to me, I remember him in school, in MIDD.

Yes I know he was born in a salford hospital, but so what.

I do believe that is why Scolesy retired - cos he was deployed out of position.
the genius that is sven employed the ginger, asthmatic genius as a left wing back in the backing hot sun, more as an attempt to fill that never ending void in the england team than to shoe horn lampard and gerrard in.

Was it Euro 2004 that he played him there most? In Portugal? Seem to remember Sinclair getting a few games left side in 2002.

He could have put Gerrard out there and had Scholesy pulling the strings as playmaker.

Rooney was on fire then, if Scholes had been feeding him centrally England might have won it. Although any team with Darius Vassell in doesnt deserve to win owt.

Yep, inspired substituting.

Vassell for Owen.

Hargreaves for Scholes.

Heskey for Rooney.

So we finish up with Heskey and Vassell up front.

I'm sure there's a quote from Rio somewhere that "he is a good tackler, but chooses to be dirty."

If it's true, then it will give him more time on the ball - any opposition player won't try too hard to get close on him as they know they'll get battered.

Sven really was a £#%&!ing idiot

Though Hargreaves was fantastic in 2002 and 2006. He really should have been alongside Scholes in the centre in 2004.

the england team should have been scholes + 10 others for the last twelve years. £#%&! em, their loss, our gain. it's been £#%&!ing brilliant watching him turn out immaculate performance after immaculate performance and win every title the club game has to offer while england stumble from catastrophe to humiliation.

genius, a magician too good for england and too good for his teammates and still underrated in england because of it. if he was spanish, french or italian he'd be mentioned in the same breath as platini and zidane as one of the greatest of all time.

Yep. Best player in the country in midfield and he got stuck on the left £#%&!ing wing.

Zidane did quote him as the best player he ever played against.

Hargreaves was stuck on the left wing as well, as a direct replacement for Scholesy.

Gigs sums it up; "you just can't get the ball off him".

Even now, both Scholes and Giggs are superior to - at a modest estimate - 90% of Premiership players.

That is why Fergie still plays them - and certainly not because "we have no money"

that pass at 5.44 to giggs. Blimey.

How much is he on, by the way?

Better be more than the homeless we've just signed...

I have heard approx 60 a week.

He hasn't got an agent, it is rumoured. Which I like.

Fergie's said before its the easiest noegotiation they do. Scholes walks in, signs his contract, goes home.

scholes is a different player now to when he was younger and his form slips when he gets an injury, it takes him longer to recover and so on, but i'd suggest the football he's producing at the moment is as good as any in his career. fewer goals, playing deeper and in a more specialised role perhaps, but he is now dominating games as a matter of routine in a way that is a rare sight. there isn't a midfielder in the league capable of that, in europe only xavi hernandez can match him but i think scholes has a better range of long-range passing.

it became quite popular not so long ago to say scholes can't play in a two, can't cope with athletic pressing etc. it was all crap. what wasn't appreciated was that at his age recovery time from injuries is longer, it takes longer to build form and fitness and so on. fully fit he is still peerless.

A good enough reason to pay him well voluntarily in my opinion.
