Don't forget that he turned up in a beret with onions around his neck during that takeover and they were loving it.

Short memories.

He’ll be at OT with the Glazers round his neck.

Athletic saying this…

“ As it stands, United are looking at a budget of about £100million ($125.6m), due to financial fair play rules. This would be the case even under Qatari owners. Wiping away the debt would allow for more flexibility but the way for United to really raise additional money is via player sales”

What do we think the difference would be with the debt wiped out?

Feels a touch nebulous for them to simply say "more flexibility" when they can accurately state a budget of "around £100m" without it being gone.

We clearly need to sell at least 4 or 5, release De Gea etc but those things added together could give ETH ~£300m to revamp the whole squad vs £100m to try & sign Kane / Osimhen.

In the article posted by AKers, it says “A debt-free Qatar takeover, for example, could instantly boost United’s income streams by up to £45 million a year just through an end to interest and dividend payments alone”

So it’s obviously a bit more, but that barely even gets you a player these days.

Would be interested in anyone with real knowledge of the FFP rules and how it’s calculated looking in to it and seeing what they come up with tbh. Because I’m highly skeptical of any UK football journalists being able to do so properly.

So how are Chelsea able to spend all that money and still be in with financial fair play? Is it because they have spread the payments out over 8 years or what ever it is?

Are we then going to look to do the same?

I believe so yes. I remember reading in January that they were trying to sell someone for £40m, can’t remember who, and that sale would be the equivalent of them spending £280m on new players spread over 7 year contracts, in terms of one year’s FFP.

Surely it all has to catch up with them at some point though?!
