Dortmund encouraged United to enter dialogue with Sancho and Obasi during which the club made clear their stance regarding finances and what they were willing to pay. Even if agreement had been reached on that front, there was the issue of Dortmund’s demand, which United balked at.

More minor elements such as the standard 4% levy to the Premier League on any transfer fee and additional costs including bonuses and national insurance are always factored in by clubs too.

HELL YES....he was the best player on the pitch when Atleti knocked Pool out of the champions league

what's worse....the one position that arsenal had to strengthen they did by paying his 45m release clause

he was the IDEAL CM that this team needed because he plays like Kante when he was buzzing all around the pitch killing counters and winning back the ball

Ole wants to play on the counter and let the front three attack but we don't have the legs behind them to play that way...FFS Matic? Fred? McT? about as mobile as an elephant in quick sand

Totally agree Sancho was massively overpriced, but they should have accepted that ages ago and gone another way.
Sancho was overpriced by what is going on today no doubt about it with having empty stadiums and teams missing on the big home game pay days. A year ago, his price is probably fairly accurate.

I saw something this morning where it claimed Sancho felt undervalued and underwhelmed by United's effort to bring him to OT. If that is true, that won't do us any favors next summer if we go back in for him.

Fred is mobile if you are comparing him to McT and Matic and Pogba...Yes

He's not even in the same galaxy when it comes to Partey in terms of being a straight out ball winner not to mention he played for Simeone so you know he is defensively miles ahead because of the system they played which fits perfectly for arsenal

Well done for walking away - that is madness.

Quote:
Manchester United walked away from signing Jadon Sancho after they concluded the transfer would cost close to €250m (£227m) because of Borussia Dortmund’s €120m price for the forward, plus his wage demand and the fee wanted by his agent, Emeka Obasi. United, it is understood, decided this was not viable in the coronavirus-affected economic climate.

This is not the first time they have abandoned a significant move because they felt it would be financially prudent. In January, they walked away from an attempt to land Erling Braut Haaland owing to the structure of a deal that included a high payment to the striker’s representative, Mino Raiola.

Dortmund encouraged United to talk with Sancho and Obasi, during which the club made clear their stance regarding finances and what they were willing to pay. Even if agreement had been reached on that front, there was the issue of Dortmund’s demand, which United balked at.

Come on, your man crush can't get a game at United or convince Everton or Villa to spend £8m on him

What's so special about Sancho. Our front three are probably all better than he is. Might have been worth a punt at half the price but 100m is taking the piss. Not a single one of these mega deals has worked for us in the last 10 years.

People are talking about these numbers (227m) as though it’s a pile of cash being shovelled into a black hole never to be seen again. It doesn’t really work that way though, does it? RM paid a nutty fee for Ronaldo at the time, got a million goals, titles, Champions Leagues, cashed in on his best years then sold him for a profit. So if you think of players as assets then that asset stays on your books and you always have the option to either sell or keep for productivity. The wages you have to pay anyway and can offset by shifting some of the rubbish in your squad.

But that’s not really the point anyway; the point is that we knew the price at which Dortmund would do business, so you make your mind up whether it’s worth it or not. There’s nothing wrong with going a few rounds of negotiation to see if there’s any room, but I think it’s pretty clear there wasn’t, so either pay the £#%&!ing thing or move on. What you don’t do is spend the entirety of the window going ‘oh go on...’ then scramble about at the last minute over paying for alternatives.

“He has had better and more efficient games,” Zorc told Ruhr Nachrichten following the home defeat to Bayern.

“He’s lacking a bit of natural lightness at the moment. Of course we speak to him, but it's not something you can rediscover just by talking.”

While Lucien Favre agreed with Zorc’s assessment, admitting Sancho is not yet in “top shape”.

Favre said: “You can’t be in top shape for a year. If it's not 100 per cent for a month, we have to accept that.”

£108m for an overweight dwarf that can't stay in shape for 12 months of the year.
