Used to be that most European top tier club revenue would be decided roughly into thirds, by gate, commercial and TV. These days the broadcasting and commercial developments have exploded to such a ridiculous degree that the gate represents a much smaller percentage of a big club’s revenue. This has been an additional reason for frozen and reduced ticket prices for many clubs. Trying to stimulate attendance and atmosphere in an effort to improve the ‘optics’ of the on screen product.
