Messi has done it in the champions league for nearly a decade, so therefore imo he has nothing to prove. You would only say otherwise if you're under the misconception that international football is the top level of football. It isn't.

If that were the case then Miroslav Klose would be the best player of all time.

Correct.

Messi is the best of all time imo. He does it consistently in supposedly the worlds best club competition.

Another argument is Messi has played in one of the greatest teams ever surrounded by world class players for the past decade. Personally I don't think he's anything to prove he's easily the second best player to ever play after Diego.

It's the highest pressure, though. No Champions League final replicates the pressure of the World Cup for an expectant nation.

Fine margins, though. Argentina would probably have won the World Cup had all their attacking players not been unfit.
