a decent knock to vermin confidence tonight methinks

it's clear as day that their squad is not champion quality

Spurs rolling them over wasn't needed to prove that

but it's still a marker that'll come in useful

as for Chelsea going out, not sure really

they seem very hit and miss all of a sudden

not bothered about the extra games at all tbh, and hope we get Watford at home next up and then get a shot at the Arsenal kids over two legs

Wonks, I know what you mean, but I have a feeling young Mr. Welbeck may well beat him to the punch
i like wellbeck too.

Ya, but I thought I saw signs of that in pre-season.

He's unusually quick, which always gives him a great chance.

He's improving rapidly, his awareness and the manner in which I've seen him combine well with a couple of different strikers has really impressed me.

I think Tevez is "all action" but I'm not sure his teammates really know what he's going to do next.

I hope you're right. But then again, being soundly beaten at home by Coventry hardly did us any damage last season!

We're not looking too clever at the moment either.

There, I said it.

Ha ha ha, I don't think even he knows sometimes.

Re Campbell hopefully tonight will encourage Redknapp to give him some more minutes in the league.

that's exactly what he needs. he proved rather handy at Hull in the championship. a step up in the prem away from the pressure of united is just the thing. i'm convinced he has what it takes.

Actually, we're looking shit. We've played some nice stuff in bursts against shit teams, but have failed to beat any of the decent sides we've faced this season. Even worse is the number of times we've taken the lead, only to draw or loose. £#%&!ing rubbish. Our away form in the League wasn't fantastic last year and looks like it'll be even worse this season. Physically, we're a soft touch too.

I suggest you start accepting right now that the scouse @#%&!s will win it (20 years after Hillsborough) while we finish 3rd and will be knocked out of Europe by the first competent side we face in the KO stage. Our European victory was down to our defensive brilliance (only one side scored two goals against us all season in the CL!). We're crap at the back this year and I'll be astonished if we make it to the Quarter Finals.

Might win the Cup if we're lucky.

Technically, gassing will be easier. Might be hard to get hold of the gas in the first place and to find an air-tight location.

It's my honest assessment of the team so far. Despite my natural tendency to be a bit of a pessimist, I don't reveal in doom just for the sake of it. My posts before most of our big games last season will show that.

Last season, we had the most defensively solid United side I've ever seen. First game in Europe was Sporting away - kept a clean sheet, got a goal on the counter and held on for the win. Before big away games in Rome and Barca, I had huge confidence in the sides ability not to concede. This year, we've looked a shambles. Tactical anarchy is the only way to describe how we played at Anfield. Shipping three goals at home to £#%&!ing Hull? Kicked out of the game at Everton? Every time the opposition get a corner or set piece in our half we look like conceding. Even Aalborg opened us up too easily in the first half hour. As defensive unit we've looked a shamble at times and I see no sign of that improving anytime soon.

Then there's the sense of a general lazyness in our play. First really came to light in the Super Cup and has been there ever since. Very similar to the drop in intensity and quality that seemed to run through the team around 00/01 season. Today we here news of our poor slave getting a pay increase ffs. Some people need to get their £#%&!ing priorities right.

Despite the obvious pain in the post I have a tendency to agree with a lot of this.

Fergie needs to realise quite how important the defensive qualities were last year and how having Berbatov isn;t the be all and end all no matter how good it looks on paper especially with Rooney.

I would like to add I was made up when we signed Berbatov, i'm just not sure he should be playing so consistently and Tevez isn't. Bit of bench warming should keep him on his toes and Tevez fresher.

The other effect of having Berbatov in the side is Ronnie being required to play as a more orthodox winger - where as last season, he was given license to do pretty much whatever the £#%&! he wanted as part of a front three. This worked very well, not least because of the graft Rooney and Tevez would put in. We won't get the best out of him while he's stuck out there.

Those three combined so well last season, that I've seen surprised how quickly the manager has split them apart to fit in Berbatov.

Finally, all four of our front players are guilty of some shocking finishing. The build up has been great at times, but no one seems willing to put the £#%&!ing ball in the back of the net. A poor defence and a wasteful attack is not a good mix, I'm sure you'll agree.

We're missing Quieroz, there is no two ways about it.

Just look at our defensive organistation in the years he was here, it was immaculate.

It sounds so simple but he specialised in making sure we were organised when we attacking.

Now we look like we are going to concede everytime the opposition counter attacks.

That's why him and Fergo were the perfect combination.

Carlos is certainly underrated by many.

fergie always works well with a side kick that reigns him in a bit

I'm surprised he left to be honest, he must be in line for the top job when Fergie retires
