That's a perfectly example of my biggest football law irritation.

Skrtl isn't shielding the ball out at all there. The ball is five yards away from him. He's level with the striker and just launches his whole body in front of the player.

Ridiculous.

And they never give those as penalties.

Regardless of the location of the ball - he elbowed him in the face.
That's a red & a foul wherever it's done on the pitch. Nowt to do with 'shielding' the ball - it's violent conduct.

Well, that's kinda my point. It's only under the notion of shielding the ball that you can regularly get away with just slamming into players with any part of your body, provided the ball is close to the byline.
