True story
I know someone who used to work as part of the dippers security team (he was head doorman in a bar I managed) and he confirmed it's true.

He was told in no uncertain terms that he couldn't leave.

Not doubting the truth of it, but why would a 'gangster' really be arsed about LFC selling a player

I spend my days controlling organised crime, but my favourite player wants to leave so I best go threaten him

Can really see Arran Coghlan nipping round to Rooneys gaf warning him off leaving for City

I had heard there was protection money involved and they didn't want to lose their cash-cow? Sounds more plausible

Crazy isn't it.

Imagine a player being threatened to stay

And we all know what happened with Rio.

Probably not. I doubt anyone would have killed Gerrard either.

Just put enough pressure on him to make him think it's not worth it.

Steven George Gerrard MBE - captain of Liverpool Football Club, occasional captain of England and role model to millions of impressionable youngsters - wished it to be known that he had "the utmost respect" for the man who stood in the dock.

Never mind that the defendant, John Kinsella, was a known gangster charged with tying up a security guard during a £41,000 robbery

Gerrard and his father, Paul, were happy to vouch for the defendant's character in an open letter to the court.

Kinsella, the jury heard, had earned their gratitude by persuading a notorious criminal, George Bromley Junior, to call off a campaign of intimidation and extortion against the footballer.

Makes a lot of sense actually, would explain why poor Rafa still daren't leave, even though the club sacked him.

it was pointed out in the times yesterday that brenton's record after ten games is even worse than hodgson's was

proof that the 'hearts and minds' bullshit is 99% of the battle with that gaggle of mental cases

July 2012

‘I think we will get in the top four,’ said Gerrard. ‘I am not being unrealistic. If we can play like we did in a lot of games last season, be clinical and take our chances, I think we will be high up in the table. I genuinely do.

‘If you perform hard enough and well enough, it will come. That is the only way you get it. I think we will get (into the top four). I’m confident we will. But these players have got to think how I think and use the hurt of what happened (last season) to make up for it. That is the only way you can do it.’

Brendan Rodgers Issues Reality Check

"The reality is we're a long way off in the league," said Rodgers. "We finished eighth last year. If we can improve on that, it'll be fantastic for us. That's the reality of where Liverpool are I'm afraid. But our young players will get better and better." "They're very educated, Liverpool supporters. It can't be easy for them," said Rodgers. "If you're not going to have a massive investment to make it happen quickly, you have to develop it. That's where we're at."
