Gill was a tighten-the-purse-strings control freak and arguably his and Ferguson's short-sightedness contributed primarily to the mess we find ourselves in.

Funnily enough, aspects which showed themselves after the glazer takeover. Before then united were busy buying ferdinand, van nistlerooy, veron, Rooney etc for 20m plus every summer, putting 40m cash aside to pay for ground improvements and reportedly wondering what to do with all the money they were making every year.

The reason the fans have turned on Ed Woodward is because it’s obvious for everyone to see he’s out of his depth running the football side of the club.

He is the safest man at OT, but that is what the problem is with the club. Because he makes millions off of noodle sponsorships it doesn’t matter how poorly he’ll run the football side of things. He even admitted himself the club doesn’t need to be successful on the pitch to keep making money

That United 'source'/quote was never actually said re Maguire or the Spurs lad. It cropped up after United were linked to the likes of Mina et al. Towards the end of the window. So used out of context to make the above sound ridiculous? Stand corrected but think it was Simon Stone who first used it and was one of several journalists who hung around at the end of a Jose presser and bumped into Ed.

Anyway, Ed's still a @#%&! who clearly thinks he knows more than he actually does. Doesn't matter if it's Jose in charge or some other fecker, he'll still have his two cents re transfer dealings and so it goes....
