Is this kid an out and out winger or more of an attacking midfielder type?

“Pellistri, who speaks English and is said to be from a supportive and settled family, is extremely quick — so quick that his manager thinks he is faster with the ball than many players are without it. He can play on the right but also the left, is two-footed, and loves to run at opposition defenders.

He needs to work on his shooting and is still considered far from the finished article but Forlan is not a bad master to learn from. Pellistri has impressed with his speed, his through-balls, his aggressive pressing and fast recovery, and is considered calm under pressure. The youngster has delivered more crosses per game than any other player in Uruguay this season and those close to him believe he is heading for the top, provided he continues to listen and learn”

Bit more on it from the MEN

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...-news-19051495

“ Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho was the priority target for United in their search for a new right winger but the the 20-year-old remains in Dortmund. The club decided to sign a long-term youth option rather than a short-term loan signing instead of Sancho, amid interest in Ismaila Sarr and Ousmane Dembele.

Pellistri joins United on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year, after the club accelerated plans to sign the South American winger late in the window.

United had been admirers of the 18-year-old wide man for well over a year and regularly tracked his progress during his breakthrough playing in the Uruguayan top flight.

MEN Sport understands that despite only being a teenager Pellistri will go straight into the first-team set-up at United with the club well aware of the impact he could make when he is given time to adapt”

Or until they knew Dortmund wouldn't budge and panicked and bought him now instead of a year or two later...

You keep saying "we know best etc" in a sarcastic manner but you don't have a £#%&!ing clue either so our guess is as good as yours.

It’s not panicking, panicking would have been looking for a big name player that was available just to appease the transfer nonces (tbf it does look like we considered that route with Dembele)

Instead, we have chosen to accelerate our interest on long term youth targets. It’s the complete opposite of panicking?

And they rushed the deal through on deadline day to try and appease the fans with an 'exciting new signing'.

PR stunt.

No it's not. It's getting a player in now because we failed miserably in our other attempts. So panicking...

I hope there's something more to this kid, all those videos make him look like he'd struggle in the reserves. Looks literally years away.

We’ve been tracking him for over a year though, how is it panicking?

Sancho hasn’t come through clearly, and it looks like it’s taken us far too long to realise that wasn’t happening. But instead of panicking and getting anyone available, we’ve turned to a long-term target?

A Dan James replacement that looks worse than Dan James.

I really hope Forlan is better at being a transfer sage than he was at scoring goals for us.

That wouldn't be too onerous a task tbh.
