Contemptible behavior by FiFA, and sadly utterly cowardly by the nations, every single nation who had planned to wear them should go ahead and do it.

It's so very easy to do a token gesture when there's nothing at stake, time for the national organisations and individuals player to take a stand, and show that they mean business when they were the armbands, or rainbow laces or whatever. If they fail to do so now, they should never again wear rainbow laces or anything like that as they will have revealed to the world that when it comes to the crunch they just don't care enough. It would be complete hypocrisy to wear them again in the future if they don't take a stand when it counts.

Yup.

I'd take a yellow card to make a stand on something.

It's not like Kane will have his head chopped off.

Nailed on that they'll do some big campaign when the tournament to show how progressive they are at the exact moment nobody gives a £#%&!.

Tbh, I don't care that much for performative arm ends, but should have left it up to the individual. Threatening yellow cards is bad form.

This sad simulation of a football tournament really is the end of days for international football.

Those armbands they've tied to replace the rainbow ones with

- Football unites the world
- Be active
- Share a meal

Seems like it is having the opposite effect

Stop people wearing rainbow armbands = more people getting outraged then there would have been, thus raising more awareness for the cause

FIFA. The £#%&!ing idiots

for fifa, the decision to go to qatar was all about money.

for qatar, it was all about sportswashing. on that ground alone, any protest should be acceptable - you get the publicity, you get the backlash. let the qatari authorities intervene if they don't like it... and then we can all go home. I mean... we shouldn't have gone in the first place.

but then, we shouldn't have gone to russia or to china for the olympics. and we shouldn't allow any of these regimes to own our clubs. or the glazers. except maybe club q.

This is it. This is the opportunity. Many people have called all these gestures pointless and all this is doing is proving them right.

And we know exactly where the ceiling is - it’s a yellow £#%&!ing card.

I'm sure the BBC and Sky will have a field day pontificating about the wrongs on this. Personally I'd much rather keep all this virtue-signalling out of sport full stop, but it shows how token all this bullshit is over here.

They are still going to kneel before kickoff. It doesn't get more impotently performative than that.

Pocket the arm band till you get on the pitch, get as far away from the ref as possible and put it on...

If they really meant it they'd wait for the booking, then refuse to play on and walk off in protest. That would really highlight the issue. It'd £#%&! telly times up, advertisment slots etc and FIFA would self combust.

Get booked for the armband, call the ref a @#%&!, get sent off, hand armband to next player, rinse and repeat.
